Our Story

Founded in 2004, MarketingHire has grown to be a leading marketing-focused niche job Website and an important part of the prestigious Marketing Career Network (MCN).

MarketingHire was founded in Chicago in 2004 by Peter DeLegge as the sister website to MarketingToday.  DeLegge, who has held senior roles at Motorola, Aon and ADT and has been recognized by the DMA as a “marketing thought leader,” founded MarketingToday in 1998, an online publication focused on marketing that quickly became popular among marketing professionals and praised by well known marketers like Seth Godin and Robert Bly, academia (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Northwestern University, Yale, Wharton, Duke University, University of Chicago, etc.), business publications like Entrepreneur, Inc., MarketingSherpa, Crain’s BtoB and more and earned DeLegge numerous keynote speaking engagements and a book deal with Wiley. When Peter ceased publishing MarketingToday’s email newsletter in 2007, its email subscribers represented marketers from more than 70% of the companies in the Fortune 500. The idea for MarketingHire.com came in 2004 after a conversation Peter had with his wife Nancy, an HR professional. Nancy shared her frustration with receiving an overwhelming quantity of low quality candidate resumes using Monster, a big general job board, and how she ended up trying an association’s niche job board where she received significantly less resumes than Monster, but found a dramatically higher percent of high quality candidates, including the candidate her company eventually hired.

Peter agreed that professional association job boards had been very good in his experience and that he was impressed with how the leading marketing associations joined together to share a job database called the Marketing Career Network (MCN) a partnership of America’s most respected marketing associations, encompassing chapters of the American Marketing Association, Business Marketing Association, Data & Marketing Association, ANA, ARF and others utilizing utilizing Boxwood Technology to manage the the jobs database (all jobs posted at MarketingHire appear on all MCN member job boards), customer service and transactions. He soon contacted Boxwood and presented his proposal that MarketingToday would create a sister site, MarketingHire, to be the first non-marketing association job board to become part of the MCN. The MCN members agreed that MarketingHire would be a great fit as part of the MCN and the rest is history! In the years that have followed, MarketingHire has been cited and/or featured in articles in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Wired, Direct, DM News, American Marketing Association News, Crain’s BtoB… It has been chosen by MarketingSherpa in their list of the best marketing, advertising and pr job boards, selected by Trendlists as one of the best two marketing job boards on the web and listed on too many career and HR sites to mention, as well as in a number of career-related books. MarketingHire’s customers have included some of the biggest names in CPG, B2B, technology, manufacturing, chemicals, services, agencies, television, radio, academia, as well as many small and medium sized companies, and some customers you might not expect, like the CIA (yes, as in Central Intelligence Agency).
